Gareth Fairhurst is standing in this local by election as the Wigan Independents candidate.

His Record as Councillor

Gareth has been an independent Cllr for Wigan Central ward before for 6 years. This was between 2004 and 2010. In that time he fought the corruption and high taxes at the Town hall. He got new play areas in the ward. He stuck up for local residents when anti social behavior was going on with his zero tolerance on crime and anti-social behaviour. He got footpaths resurfaced and potholes filled in, All this, despite opposition from Labour every step of the way!

​Fighting Labour

​

He fought and won to scrap free meals for Cllrs – this saved you the taxpayers £70,000 per year. He fought to save Mere oaks when Labour turned their backs on children with special needs.

Recently when Kilhey Court was used to house migrants Gareth campaigned to get it closed down by organising a petition and rally. He went to take the fight to 10 Downing Street and was on national radio and TV channels campaigning for local people – including you the residents of Wigan Central.

Immigration & Safety

He believes immigration levels should be managed locally. If elected, he will fight to control the number of migrants housed in Wigan Central.. If elected by you he will fight to keep the streets safe and campaigned against any mass influx of migrants in the area, as he has done so in the past. He will fight the Council to lower the number of HMO’s in the ward. He will fight to get more police on the streets and lower the council tax and stop the waste that this labour controlled council spends on stupid ideas.

Personal Life

​

As a family man who has been married to his wife Debbie for over 25 yrs, they have 3 children. In his spare time you will find Gareth either with the family's new puppy or climbing mountains.

Gareth has worked in the private sector all his life and in banking and finance for over 20 yrs. He knows how business works he knows how to bring investment in and after how Labour have killed Wigan town centre off – lord knows we need someone like gareth right now.

Achievements

When he was your councillor, he brought the George Formby statue to the town centre and this brought in over £1m into Wigan. He has fought this Labour council in the high court when labour tried to steal your vote – and Won!

Closing Statement

Gareth is not a politician who talks the talk and can’t walk the walk. In fact he doesn’t see himself as a politician but as one of you, a family man who wants a fair and right society. He gets results and one last thing. He will always work for you and not some national party in London, who tell you what you want but never ask you.

Gareth is a breath of fresh air, a person that the ward and Wigan needs.
